Tips and Ideas

Tip:

I highly recommend for any unmarried person that has various types of titled vehicles to get a TRANSFER ON DEATH (TOD) form completed. You can find the form on the probate court website of your county or the Ohio BMV website (form BMV 3811). It's an easy form to fill out. It must be notarized. You then take it to a *TITLE BUREAU, and they immediately create a new title. This eliminates the need to probate a car, for example, and it can save a lot of time, money, and frustration! *There is a charge at the title bureau but far less than what you pay for probate court!

Tip:

As you begin preplanning your final arrangements, direct cremation is always an option if you don't want a funeral.

Tip:

Please read and learn as much as possible about the Medicaid Estate Recovery Program, sometimes referred to as MER or MERP. I cannot stress enough how much this could impact your family.

Idea:

I have started a family tree scrapbook for my son. I include a story page for each relative. I am also putting in the birth (and death) certificates, pictures, and newspaper clippings. In the future, if my son is curious, he could research further family history from the names in this book.
